Holiday Staff Picks
The Furnish Green showroom is a magical and wonderful place to be with ample amounts of fine, well-crafted pieces that continue to stand the test of time. As an employee, the temptation is certainly real and it’s hard not to buy everything in sight (actually, living in a small NYC apartment is beginning to have its anti-hoarding perks)!
The small staff that makes up the FG team thoughtfully selects these time-tested pieces that then go through a meticulous cleaning process and are photographed and presented online or in the showroom. It’s what we do to ensure that our pieces go to good homes as quickly as possible.
This holiday season we decided to present a handful of curated Staff Picks from the widely eclectic group that makes up the Furnish Green team. #Blessed.
Enjoy!
> Marielle’s Picks:
If you’re entertaining for the holidays, you’ve got to be properly equipped! You’ll definitely need a dining table, and one with drop leaves is perfect as it allows you to open it up for dinner and close it when you need more space for dancing! You’ll need the proper seating, and a rustic dining chair set always has a bit more charm. Stylish serveware will, of course, make the food look and taste better, and what party would be complete without a fully stocked bar cart?

> Stephanie’s Picks:
1. Cloth Folk Art Wall Hanging – “Oh…I love this piece, it’s been a favorite of mine for quiet a while! The way the bold cut-outs are layered onto one another and the lack of foreground, really gives this piece a great sense of space. It is also a very colorful piece that can be easily integrated into your current decor.”
2. Velvety Black Panther – “This is one of those paintings where you just have to touch it. The black felt surface was strategically used to create a form and the frame certainly helps bring our the ferocity of this big cat.”
3. Satsuma Gilded Vase with Stand – “A gorgeous and well-made vase that is adorned in intricate gilded designs. As it is a very nice piece to look at, I was sold on the textured surface.”
4. Floral Potted Plant Cloth Wall Hanging– “This screen-printed piece is a simple and minimalist take on what could have been an over whelming subject. I am certainly digging the pop of color against the pale flowers and honestly, any artwork that can convey a pretty and tranquil experience (with restrained marks) is a great piece in my book. ”
Stephanie is a visual artist and has been with Furnish Green since July. She assists in curating the showroom and writes product descriptions.
> Jack’s Picks:
1. Mid Century Brass Gooseneck Desk Lamp – “When I’m in a dark room and need to look at some of my important documents, I turn on this lamp. It has a nice, long gooseneck.”
2. Moss Green Lay-Z Boy Recliner – ” I dream about cozying up on this mossy recliner and enjoying a humble book in my study.”
3. Tall Drexel Book Stand – “Perfect for giving fake Ted Talks about metaphysical constructs to calm the persisting voices in your head that tell you question your perception of reality.”
4. Knoxville furniture Cane and Wood 1-Drawer Desk – “Handsome and sturdy, this privateer’s desk does a great job in assisting any budding novelist in reaching his or her climax.”
Jack is currently a student, studying film, and is fearless on the ladder! Also, there is no item he cannot wrap.
> Jims’s Picks:
1. Mid Century Teak Woven Door Desk- Online Only – “This desk is in really nice condition. It is long; so it offers a fine amount of space for storage. But it is not very deep; so it can offer that significant storage volume while maintaining a low profile.”
2. Green Workbench- Online Only – “Man alive, do I love this workbench. The size is extremely practical for the city. The green-blue top gives it character. This rugged little number could transform someone’s studio.”
3. Life-Sized decorative Snow Man Sentinel- Online Only – “This large denizen of winter offers a variety of uses to the creative and quirky shopper; display piece, coat rack, graffiti canvas… or line the inside with teflon and make it your personal panic room.”
4. Day-Glo 1970s Plastic Stool- Online Only – “These punchy little stools are really sturdy. They’ll pep up your place with a blast of color. And I’m fascinated by the manner in which the lower and upper halves join one another.”
Jim has been with Furnish Green for about 3 years and is fairly considered our Warehouse Guy. He takes great care of cataloging and photographing our warehouse ‘Online-Only’ pieces, out in Jersey.
> Alain’s Picks:
1. Brass and Black Chess Piece Table Lamp – I like the rough and strong look of this lamp compared to ceramic or glass lamps. The colors are also very nice and easy to place in any room.
2. Large Classic Mahogany Mirror – A large, clean and simple mirror with a beautiful frame!
3. Provincial Cherry 1-Drawer Nightstand – This nightstand is unique for its height and slender build. The cubby space is also a great feature.
4. Moss Green Lay-Z Boy Recliner – This chair is beautiful. I love it’s color and how comfortable it is!
Alain is the newest addition to the FG team and we’re happy to have him! He can be found at the warehouse tweaking and reinforcing pieces, along with sharing his Crunch bar.
> Nathan’s Picks:
1. Italian Art Deco Ivory Leather Club Chair – A very comfortable chair that hugs your back as you rock and swivel. Really well made. I love this chair.
2. Kent Coffey Asian Mid Century 9-Drawer Dresser – From the Park Avenue series, this really cool piece comes with great ornate hardware and can mix easily with simple streamline mid century styles.
3. Toshiba Solid State TV – I like the decorative look of small vintage TVs and believe it’ll become a trend for the old coming back.
4. Lane Triangular End Table – Sweet end table with nice curved lines! Really nice mid century piece from Lane with a slightly primitive look and walnut center.
5. Battle Creek Equipment Retro Trim-Ciser – This is a cool piece. I am hoping for dated workout trends to cycle back, so this can be on the fore-front of fitness. It is well-made, still works, and is in a cool color!
Nathan is the owner and sole buyer for Furnish Green. It is safe to say, he’s the reason we are all here!
1960s Fotron Snap Load Camera
Not only does this camera look super cool, but it’s also pretty unique. Fotron snap load magazine camera was manufactured in California by the Traid Company throughout the 1960s. The camera’s main selling point was the snap in cartridges of 828 film which made loading a breeze and was pretty different from most other 35mm cameras during this time. The Fotron is also a pretty rare find because it was only sold door to door, and never in stores. In good physical condition with some yellowing to flash bar, and some light wear overall. Not tested for functionality.

Product Spotlight: How’d you miss these?
Every weekday new products make their way into the showroom and onto our website, and with an ever-changing inventory of around 800 furniture and home decor items, it’s easy to miss things, no matter how special they may be! So we’re spotlighting some of our favorite pieces that you must have missed!
Rway Provincial Walnut Credenza
We don’t get Provincial-style buffets and credenzas in very often, and this one is a real beauty! A little taller than the standard credenza, it offers great storage and could work well in a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Made by Sheboygan, Wisconsin’s Rway Furniture Company, this is a steal at $571.
Art Deco Red Planet Chandelier
Often, “chandelier” evokes images of Victorian or Gothic ornate hanging lights with sprawling octopus arms. This chandelier is the opposite, with a compact clean silhouette and mysterious Deco forms. Holding five bulbs, it offers significant lighting in a sleek package for $225.
Contemporary Studded Cloth Loveseat
Especially well-suited for a restaurant or retail space, this contemporary high-back loveseat is very chic and welcoming. Any New York lobby, waiting area, or entryway could suit this piece that smartly blends neutral tones with audacious studs. The studs and tufted back mimic aspects of the beloved Chesterfield sofa in a decidedly modern manner. Bring the upscale flair of this loveseat to your home or business for only $407.
Carved Elephant Stone-Top Coffee Table
“The elephant in the room” is an idiom, referring to an obvious problem that is being avoided. “Four elephants in the room” is not an actual idiom, referring to this incredibly cool coffee table. The rich tone of the carved wood base looks incredibly stylish with its marbled stone top. Bold and a little playful, this attention-grabbing coffee table is $388.
Red and Black Asian Canister Lamp
The abstract green figures on the body of this lamp are wonderfully mysterious. Are they plants? Parts of a sea monster? Or just beautiful shapes? There’s no right answer, but this deep red lamp is a captivating addition for an edgy interior, and is $171.
Large Retro Fiberglass Trays Cart
Standing tall at 71″ (nearly six feet), this three-tiered cart is a unique storage option perfect for New Yorkers trying to maximize vertical space. It’s an early model of Flora-Cart, a three tiered rack for plant display used by florists and home gardeners. However, it has endless possible uses in a home or business and is $391.
J.B. Slattery & Bro Porcelain Stove
Seafoam green swirls on a milky porcelain body make this the sweetest stove around! It would look charming in a retail display or delightfully unconventional as a home bar in your living room. Lovable and highly photogenic, it’s a great purchase for $452.
