Product Spotlight: New Year, New Walls
With the new year approaching (or having just arrived, depending on when you read this), you may be making resolutions or considering what you want to change in life. Adding a few new pieces to your home is a revitalizing way to beat the middle of winter doldrums, and feel like you’ve been handed a new lease on life. What if you’ve already maxed out your available square footage? Art, mirrors, and other wall hangings can change the feel of a room without taking up an inch of precious floor space.
Look for landscapes or other outdoor scenes to enhance a sense of calmness and add color. These can range from the peaceful painted scenes of an autumnal riverbank to a sleek Lee Reynolds cityscape. Portraits and scenes of people, on the other hand, can energize and enliven a space. This Haitian oil painting of dancing women has great movement, and this friendly portrait of a mother and child radiates warmth.
If paintings aren’t your thing, vintage industrial signage may be more suited to your style. Repurposing industrial signage for the home can add a touch of humor while also offering clean iconic graphics. This Pepsi sign would suit soda lovers or commercial graphic design aficionados, while the clean typography of the “Hall For Hire” sign would look great above a doorway, and this 1950s public health poster is perfect for hanging in a bathroom.
Of course, you can hang more than just pictures and signs. Hang or mount objects like tools in your home for an unexpected twist to humdrum home decor. This antique rake offers rustic charm, while this pair of swords evokes swashbuckling adventure, and the use of color in this two-person saw gives it a cool modernist feel.
Mirrors and lights are always a functional addition, but also make spaces feel larger. Hang this large walnut mirror, this ship’s wheel mirror, or this brass orb wall-mounted light and revel in how much bigger your room can feel.
So when you’re taking down your old calendar for your shiny new 2018 one, look at your walls and see if there are any bare spots that could use a fresh wall hanging. Then head over to the Wall Hangings, Tools, Mirrors, or Wall-Mounted Lamps categories or come into the showroom to see a wide range of wonderful vintage wall adornments!

Decorating With Color
In light of the fact that it’s spring and we are beginning to see colors pop up all around outside, we have begun to notice all of the wonderful colors that surround us inside the Furnish Green showroom. It is easy to get overwhelmed, so here is a quick guide to help you approach the difficult task of deciding what colors to use in your newly decorated space.
Red – Resonant and stimulating. Using the color red increases heart rate and appetite. It may even increase your level of passion. There is an old interior decorating secret that says to put at least one red item in every room of the house.

Orange – Energetic and vibrant. Decorating with the color orange gives a space a fun and creative atmosphere. It brings positive vibes to any room. You may think orange is out of style, but there is something about this color that will always be hip and cool.

Yellow – Bright and optimistic. Decorating with the color yellow brings sunshine into any space. It is the happiest color and for good reason! Add yellow wherever you want other things to stand out.

Green – Calm and relaxing. The color green stimulates your senses and makes you feel like you’re in nature. It is the most healing hue. A good tip is to use multiple shades of green in the same space.

Blue – Cool and comforting. Blue works the exact opposite way of red. Use it to lower the heart rate and to decrease your appetite. It can help create a space for work and meditation. It is the best color to use in a room that receives a lot of sunlight that needs to be cooled down.

Purple – Luxurious and expensive. Purple has a long reputation for symbolizing royalty and power. The bluer shades of purple have a more calming effect that brings a sense of mystery to a room, while the redder shades attract a lot more attention and dominate a space.

The Furnish Green showroom is a magical and wonderful place to be with ample amounts of fine, well-crafted pieces that continue to stand the test of time. As an employee, the temptation is certainly real and it’s hard not to buy everything in sight (actually, living in a small NYC apartment is beginning to have its anti-hoarding perks)!
The small staff that makes up the FG team thoughtfully selects these time-tested pieces that then go through a meticulous cleaning process and are photographed and presented online or in the showroom. It’s what we do to ensure that our pieces go to good homes as quickly as possible.
This holiday season we decided to present a handful of curated Staff Picks from the widely eclectic group that makes up the Furnish Green team. #Blessed.
Enjoy!

> Stephanie’s Picks:
1. Cloth Folk Art Wall Hanging – “Oh…I love this piece, it’s been a favorite of mine for quiet a while! The way the bold cut-outs are layered onto one another and the lack of foreground, really gives this piece a great sense of space. It is also a very colorful piece that can be easily integrated into your current decor.”
2. Velvety Black Panther – “This is one of those paintings where you just have to touch it. The black felt surface was strategically used to create a form and the frame certainly helps bring our the ferocity of this big cat.”
3. Satsuma Gilded Vase with Stand – “A gorgeous and well-made vase that is adorned in intricate gilded designs. As it is a very nice piece to look at, I was sold on the textured surface.”
4. Floral Potted Plant Cloth Wall Hanging– “This screen-printed piece is a simple and minimalist take on what could have been an over whelming subject. I am certainly digging the pop of color against the pale flowers and honestly, any artwork that can convey a pretty and tranquil experience (with restrained marks) is a great piece in my book. ”
Stephanie is a visual artist and has been with Furnish Green since July. She assists in curating the showroom and writes product descriptions.
> Jack’s Picks:

Jack is currently a student, studying film, and is fearless on the ladder! Also, there is no item he cannot wrap.
> Jims’s Picks:
1. Mid Century Teak Woven Door Desk- Online Only – “This desk is in really nice condition. It is long; so it offers a fine amount of space for storage. But it is not very deep; so it can offer that significant storage volume while maintaining a low profile.”
2. Green Workbench- Online Only – “Man alive, do I love this workbench. The size is extremely practical for the city. The green-blue top gives it character. This rugged little number could transform someone’s studio.”

4. Day-Glo 1970s Plastic Stool- Online Only – “These punchy little stools are really sturdy. They’ll pep up your place with a blast of color. And I’m fascinated by the manner in which the lower and upper halves join one another.”

1. Brass and Black Chess Piece Table Lamp – I like the rough and strong look of this lamp compared to ceramic or glass lamps. The colors are also very nice and easy to place in any room.
2. Large Classic Mahogany Mirror – A large, clean and simple mirror with a beautiful frame!
3. Provincial Cherry 1-Drawer Nightstand – This nightstand is unique for its height and slender build. The cubby space is also a great feature.

1. Italian Art Deco Ivory Leather Club Chair – A very comfortable chair that hugs your back as you rock and swivel. Really well made. I love this chair.
2. Kent Coffey Asian Mid Century 9-Drawer Dresser – From the Park Avenue series, this really cool piece comes with great ornate hardware and can mix easily with simple streamline mid century styles.
3. Toshiba Solid State TV – I like the decorative look of small vintage TVs and believe it’ll become a trend for the old coming back.
4. Lane Triangular End Table – Sweet end table with nice curved lines! Really nice mid century piece from Lane with a slightly primitive look and walnut center.
5. Battle Creek Equipment Retro Trim-Ciser – This is a cool piece. I am hoping for dated workout trends to cycle back, so this can be on the fore-front of fitness. It is well-made, still works, and is in a cool color!
